We invite our SwissMAP PhD and Postdoc members to read the new SwissMAP PhD and Postdoc Mentoring Program leaflet which provides information about the program. The program is open to all SwissMAP PhD and Postdoc members.
Our member Maryna Viazovska (EPFL) has recently received national press coverage following the National Latsis Prize she was awarded for her ground-breaking mathematical problem solving..
Professor Sir Martin Hairer is the single winner of the 2021 Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics. He was a PhD student at UNIGE in our member Jean-Pierre Eckmann’s group. He finished his PhD in 2001 on "Comportement asymptotique d’équations à dérivées partielles stochastiques".
Our director Stanislav Smirnov (UNIGE) will be a speaker at the upcoming 19th Colloque Wright in Geneva. His talk entitled “Mathematics: Art or Science?” will take place 6th November at 18:30. Free entrance, on registration from October 5.
Our member Nicolas Gisin will be participating in the "Café philosophique aux Bains des Pâquis" Public debate "Qu'est-ce que le hasard?" (FR) in Geneva 03rd October.
Maryna Viazovska (EPFL) receives the National Latsis Prize awarded to young researchers under the age of 40, for her ground-breaking mathematical problem solving. The prize will be presented by Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin at an awards ceremony in Bern on 4 November.
We are glad to announce that our member Jürg Fröhlich (ETH Zurich) has been elected as an international member of the National Academy of Sciences. His colleagues in the United States invited him to join the fellowship in recognition of his significant contributions to science.
We are glad to inform you that our member Tudor Ratiu (EPFL) has joined the list of mentors of our SwissMAP PhD and Postdoc mentoring programme. The programme was launched to support our PhD and Postdoc SwissMAP members and to give them access to the knowledge, skills and expertise of our more senior SwissMAP participants who volunteered as mentors.
The Junior Global Poisson Workshop 2020 (14-16 Sept) has started with this welcome message from the organisers talking about this virutal three-day workshop for Young Poisson Geometers.
Congratulations to Nikita Nikolaev (UNIGE) who is this year’s winner of the SwissMAP PhD & Postdoc Video Competition for his video: How do you solve a really hard problem? With Perturbation Theory! This year’s 2nd Prize winner is Beatriz Navarro Lameda (UNIGE) for her video: Random Walks.
The conference has been postponed to 2021, (previous date: 22-25 June 2020). This conference will bring together students and close collaborators of Jean-Pierre Eckmann on the occasion of his 50 years at the University of Geneva. 
The conference has been postponed to July 26 - 30, 2021 to be held again at CERN. Gauge/Gravity Duality has established itself as a significant link between gravitation and quantum field theory. 
We are happy to announce that Geneva will be hosting the next International Congress of Mathematical Physics in 2021. The event is expected to attract around 800 participants from around the world.
