This year the Journée Georges de Rham 2025, is organised by the Section of Mathematics at the University of Geneva in collaboration with the NCCR SwissMAP.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, from 15:00 to 18:00, at the University of Geneva, in Room U300, Uni Dufour.
This annual scientific event, held alternately by the University of Geneva and EPFL, is named after Georges de Rham, one of the great Swiss mathematicians of the 20th century. Established in 1991, it has become a long-standing tradition that brings together leading minds in mathematics and related fields and celebrates mathematics in all its beauty and breadth.
Each edition features prominent international speakers whose work bridges mathematics and other scientific disciplines.
For the 2025 edition, hosted by UNIGE, we are honoured to welcome two outstanding speakers:
Ronald Coifman (Yale University)
MATHEMATICAL ORCHESTRATIONS: REVEALING AND ENCODING HIDDEN STRUCTURES IN EMPIRICAL DATA
An outstanding mathematician and one of the leading experts in wavelet theory, Ronald Coifman has received several distinguished awards, including the U.S. National Medal of Science (1999), Rolf Schock Prize in Mathematics (2018), and the George David Birkhoff Prize in Applied Mathematics (2024).
Terrence Sejnowski (Salk Institute & UC San Diego)
BRAINS AND AI
A leading figure in computational neuroscience and artificial intelligence. His work has been recognised with several major awards, including the Swartz Prize for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience (2015), the Gruber Neuroscience Prize (2022), and the Brain Prize (2024).
