New Members : Sam Canning (ETHZ), Vassilis Papadopoulos (EPFL), Jef Pauwels (UNIGE) & Stefano Rossi (UZH)

8 Apr 2024

Welcome to Sam, Vassilis, Jef and Stefano !

Sam is an algebaric geometer interested in the intersection theory of moduli spaces of curves, surfaces, and abelian varieties. He graduated from the University of California San Diego in 2022 with a thesis on computing Chow rings of moduli spaces of curves and surfaces.

Vassilis’ current research interests are in the field of Artificial Life. Before his postdoc, his research was in theoretical high-energy physics. Fascinated by the Black Hole Information Paradox, he took an interest in the recent advances in 2019 with the Island proposal. This led him to the study of toy models of Holography in the presence of domain walls, with goal to better understand the setups in which the Island proposal was formulated.

Jef completed his PhD at the University of Brussels under the supervision of Stefano Pironio, where we studied correlations that can arise between entangled systems that exchange quantum messages. His research interests cover many aspects of quantum information, including quantum correlations, device-independent applications and quantum foundations.

Stefano completed his PhD in May 2023 at the University of Rome La Sapienza, under the supervision of professors D. Benedetto and E. Caglioti. His research interests lie in the Analysis of Partial differential equations, where he is mainly interested in problems inspired by Kinetic Theory, particularly in stability and validity problems for mean-field equations.
