Talks will take place at 18:30 (Uni-Dufour, UNIGE)

• Monday November 2nd: ETIENNE GHYS (CNRS ENS Lyon and Académie des Sciences Paris) “Chaos: unpredictable but understandable”

• Tuesday November 3rd LAURE SAINT-RAYMOND (École normale supérieure in Lyon) “Disorder, chance and large numbers”

• Wednesday November 4th: MARTIN HAIRER (Imperial College London) “A mathematical journey From the infinitely small to the infinitely large”

• Thursday November 5th: ALAIN CONNES (Collège de France, Institut des hautes études scientifiques at the University of Paris-Saclay and Ohio State University, Columbus) “The music of shapes”

• Friday November 6th: Our Director STANISLAV SMIRNOV (Université de Genève) “Mathematics: art or science?”

Discussions with journalist moderators as well as simultaneous translations to French and English are part of the program. Entrance is free of charge but previous registration is necessary, public talks will also be live streamed.

Sound and light show: The Wright Colloquium’s traditional sound and light show will light up the façade of the University of Geneva’s oldest building with a dazzling 20 minutes display of rhythm and colour. The journey will take participants through time and space visiting the Babylonians and ancient Chinese and guide them through the beauty of algebra and geometry. Preview of the show

Younger Public: Young people from 14 to 20 years of age, will have the opportunity to meet the colloquium speakers and visit “Scienscopes” including Mathscope, where they will be able to participate to a series of interactive workshops. Previous registration is required.

Exhibition: This exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to discover “Beautiful Maths. A group of researchers from the University of Geneva were asked to select an image from their research and to explain why they considered their image to be beautiful. Each of the nine posters exhibited includes a question which visitors will be challenged to answer through a QR code.

Our members Elise Raphael, Joana Mailler and Shaula Fiorelli are the exhibition curators.
